Top Tips to Maximise the First Impression of Your Home When Selling

Getting your home ready for sale can bring up mixed feelings and even feel daunting, it’s not something that can usually be done overnight but by following our tips and making a list of things to do, your home will be sale ready in no time at all.

First Impressions

First impressions ALWAYS count, especially when it relates to selling your home so it’s important to make sure your garden and outside space is in order. A freshly cut lawn, clean windows, a tidy driveway and moving bins out of sight if possible all help enormously. Think about what potential buyers will notice as they enter your property. Does the doorbell work? Could the entrance do with a sweep? Are there any major issues with paintwork?

Closer Inspection

It might be helpful to declutter your home as this will make things easier in regards to tidying up before viewings begin and also has the double bonus of getting rid of anything you don’t need before you eventually pack up to leave the property when it’s sold. Potential buyers want to be able to navigate the space with ease and not have to manoeuvre around clutter or your belongings.

Create a Warm Atmosphere

Everyone has their own style and your décor may not be to someones else’s taste and vice versa, however, despite the fact that most buyers will be visualising stamping their own style on the property; it’s still a good idea to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere so the property feels inviting from the get go. Is it cold out? Could you leave the heating on low? Are there any repairs that need to be carried out? While it’s not the best idea to have overpowering perfume or chemical smells in the house, clean and fresh is so important.

View Objectively

When your property is ready for viewings, it might be helpful to take one last walk around and look at your property objectively through a potential buyers eyes to ensure it is in tip top condition and you are happy with the way it’s going to be presented. Have a think about what you would like to see or not see on a property viewing, make a list of what you need to do and tackle it one thing at a time.
