Packing up Your Home for Moving Day – Our 5 Top Tips

If moving day is looming and you haven’t got a plan in place yet, we are here to help! Here are our top tips for packing up your home for moving day!

Boxes. Boxes. Boxes

Get enough boxes! And if you think you have enough, get a few more to be on the safe side. You can never have enough boxes. If you think you have a lot of stuff, it will always seem like more when it comes to packing it all up. Ensure you have a few different size boxes to suit your belongings.

Room by Room

Trying to pack up a whole house in one go will lead to frustration and overwhelm. Try packing up your belongings room by room and finish a room before you move onto the next. Keep a couple of bags handy which will contain your essentials for the first morning in your new house including tea, coffee, clothes, towels, personal items and toiletries.

Label as You Go

To avoid a huge headache when you land in your new home, make sure you label everything you pack and bring it straight to the correct room as you move in to the new place, this means you can tackle unpacking the same way you packed: room by room, and you instantly know where everything is.

De-Clutter

Avoid packing things you don’t want or need by de-cluttering as you pack up your old home. To avoid a big mess, have a plan in place for the things you are getting rid of. A good idea is to have two bags labelled ‘donate’ and ‘bin’ and start filling. As soon as you are done, organise a visit to the tip and the charity shop in one trip so the bags are out of your way.

Clothes

If the thought of removing all of your clothes from hangers and folding them into boxes or suitcases makes you want to run for the hills, we have a clever hack for you. While your clothes are still hanging, bunch together your hangers into two or three sections, open a large bin bag and drop a bunch of clothes into the bag from the bottom. Tie the bag securely at the neck of the clothes hangers and you can easily transport your clothes from A to B.
