MOVING TIPS AND TRICKS: MAKING YOUR HOUSE MOVE STRESS-FREE

Moving Tips and Tricks: Making Your House Move Stress-Free

We all know how stressful moving house can be but with the right planning and preparation it doesn’t need to be overwhelming. Here are our top tips on making your next house move stress-free.

Create a Checklist

Before moving day rolls around, it’s a good idea to sit down with a pen and paper and write down everything you need to do to make your move successful, whether this is cancelling your energy providers, buying boxes and packaging or having a clear out in advance, this will ensure you don’t forget anything and keep you accountable as you near your moving date. Write down everything no matter how small and enjoy ticking them off one-by-one.

De-Clutter in Advance

De-cluttering well in advance of your move will remove a lot of unnecessary stress and overwhelm and lets you focus completely on what needs to be done with more clarity. Start by sorting out anything you don’t need or want anymore and making plans to sell or donate them at least a few months before moving day.

Pack an Essentials Box

Moving day will be busy and tiring so pack an essentials box which you will have easy access to when you arrive at you new home. This could include anything you need to make your first few hours or night the most comfortable including any medication, tea bags, mugs and chargers and anything else you think you might need immediately. Put the box in your car so it doesn’t get lost in the removal van.

Plan Childcare or a Pet Sitter

As much as you love your little angels or fur babies, moving day isn’t the best place for them when you have so much to do. As stressful as moving day is for you, it’s going to be more stressful for them when they don’t fully understand what’s going on. Ask family to take care of your little ones or book a sitter and arrange to pick them up when you are safely settled in your new home for the evening.

Book Early and Inform Suppliers

If you are booking cleaners, decorators or a moving company to help with your move ensure you book them well in advance of your moving date to avoid last minute high prices or losing out at peak times. Remember to inform your gas, electricity and utility providers of your intention to move and take any necessary meter readings.
