HOW TO CHILDPROOF YOUR HOME FOR ADDED SAFETY AND SECURITY

How to Childproof Your Home for Added Safety and Security

If you are thinking of expanding your family or have a little one that is just beginning to discover the world around them (and their home!) you might be wondering what you can do to make your previously adult friendly space a child friendly one! Here are our top tips.

Give the Little’s Their Own Space

The first one on this list is just as much for the kids as it is for you. Is it possible to give the children their own playroom or section off part of a room just for them? This will not only give you more of a chance to keep the rest of the house tidy and organised but give the kids their own independence in a space they can control safely.

Reconsider Storage and Organisation

This one is simple and just means removing anything you don’t want your little ones getting their hands on because if it is within reach, they will reach for it. The obvious day to day things to store away from children are cleaning equipment or chemicals but you might also want to consider putting away that family heirloom or a cherished vase until they are old enough to understand.

Stamp Your Style in a Different Way

If you are fond of candles and ornaments in your home, they might not be the best idea around little wandering hands but this doesn’t mean you have to compromise your style. Just do it in a different way. Get creative and add books, throws and cushions to your rooms to compliment them but with the added bonus of knowing they are safe for your children and can’t get broken either.

Use Baby Gates and Home Safety Devices

There are so many home safety item for children on the market and a safety gate is one of them. Apart from placing a gate on the stairs, you can use them all over your home to section off certain risk areas such as the kitchen or bathroom. Consider drawer and cupboard locks to keep baby away from harmful household chemicals, knives or sharp objects to give you peace of mind and turning down the water thermostat so they don’t get scalded if they turn the taps on.
