Summer has arrived with a bang and you might be wondering how you can make the best use of your outdoor space this year. If you want to breathe new life into your garden and are looking to create the perfect outdoor haven on a budget, then read on for our top tips.
Repurpose Repurpose Repurpose
Take a look around in the garden to see what needs doing and then look around your home to see if there is anything you don’t need which could be used outside. Practically anything can be repurposed to achieve a quirky look somewhere else. Old metal colanders make perfect hanging baskets by attaching metal chains with built in drainage too. If you live near the beach, collect shells or see what you can forage to make into something for your garden.
Perfect Pallets
Pallet DIY is huge and you can make pretty much anything you want. If you have access to some old pallets or could see if a local business would give away some for free, then you are halfway there. Browse Google and YouTube for some DIY pallet ideas, throw in a tin of old paint and some cushions from the house and you could make a seating area or even tables for your outdoor haven.
Grow Your Own
If you have always dreamed of a fruit or vegetable garden, you don’t need much to get started! Re-use old pre-loved containers or pots and pans to make a mini garden for your fruit and veg. If you want to get started straight away, spring onions and celery can be regrown straight from the kitchen by slicing near the root and placing into a glass of water. When the new shoots sprout, plant them out in your garden and water regularly.
Give Your Patio a Facelift
If your patio is looking tired and you can’t afford to replace the slabs, this idea has been hugely popular lately – paint them! This idea is not as costly as it sounds and can be achieved by using leftover paint from the shed and some stencils. If ready-made stencils are out of your budget, you could even make your own! Add a rug from the house for a shabby chic effect on your summer evenings. If you want to go all out, keep painting and create a feature wall too.
