Home- Made Tree Decorations

The little ones will love this one and the best thing about it is you will likely already have everything you need to get started. Begin by making a simple salt dough with 250g of plain flour, 125g of salt and 125g of water. Roll out to a thickness of about 1cm and use festive shaped cookie cutters to shape (Don’t forget to pierce a hole in the top to thread string though later) Place your decorations in the oven for 2-3 hours and paint when done. Glaze with PVA glue to make your decorations stand the test of time.

Make Your Own Door Wreath

This one is so much fun and doubles up as a day out for the family too! Wrap up warm and visit the local forest or walking trail and forage for your own materials to make a door wreath. You can buy a pre-made artificial wreath and decorate it with painted pine cones, berries or leaves and you can always add a bit of Christmas sparkle with a glitter spray at the end. If you want to make your wreath completely from scratch, use a sturdy branch or piece of wire to create the round wreath shape and add foliage to fill it out. Use thin wire to attach your decorations.

DIY Snow Globes

What is it about magical snow globes that encapsulate Christmas? It’s so easy to make your own, here’s how. Grab a clean, empty jar and glue a plastic figurine onto the inside of the jar lid. Fill the jar almost full with water, add a few drops of glycerine and a couple of teaspoons of glitter. Add some glue around the rim of the jar/underside of lid and screw on tightly. Flip the jar upside down, shake and enjoy your new snow globe!

Thumbprint Art Cards

Want to make your own DIY cards with the kids to send to family and friends? The little ones will love thumbprint art. Fold some A4 pieces of white card in half and let the kids loose with some non-toxic washable craft paint. The possibilities are endless, they could create a Christmas tree with thumbprint baubles, gingerbread men, reindeers or even Santa himself. The kids will enjoy making them and loved ones will be delighted to receive a homemade card with a personal touch. Win win!
