Moving to a brand new area can be very exciting but can also push you a little out of your comfort zone. If you are thinking about moving to a new area, here are some things for you to consider…
The Cost of Living
The cost of living can vary from place to place so this is an important topic to think about before you decide to move. Can you afford the rent or the mortgage on a house in the new area? Does your budget allow for local amenities or the cost of shopping, entertainment or eating out? These can all add up in comparison to what you might be used to, so it is worth researching.
Job Opportunities
Is the new area you want to move to thriving and buzzing with opportunity? Unless you want to commute or you are moving to be closer to your existing job, it is a good idea to see what the local job economy looks like and factor this in to your plans should you need to seek work in the future.
Family Focussed
Depending on whether you already have a family or plan to start one when you get settled, checking out the local, nurseries, schools, parks and children’s services in the new area is probably number one on your list. Do children’s services in the catchment have good ratings or would you need to travel so your children can attend your ideal school?
Transport and Links
Unless you are moving to a busy city where everything you need is close by, you are more than likely going to need some form of transport to commute or for shopping trips. Does your prospective town or area have local transport links or convenient places to park your car? Google Maps is your friend here.
Local Attractions
The interests of an older couple without children could differ greatly from a younger and larger family with small children. Does the new area stack up to what you and your family enjoy doing? Is it exciting and busy or is it more idyllic and calm? Which do you prefer? Do your research.
