Are the kids bored yet? We aren’t that far in to the Summer holidays and you might be looking for something to do with the kids to make their time off more fun and to keep the costs down for you, free. With this in mind, here is our selection of the best free parks and attractions in Nottinghamshire.
The Arboretum
This beautiful place is the oldest park in Nottingham, opened in 1852 and the perfect place for nature walks and a glimpse at the amazing countryside which is deceptively close to the city centre. Unofficially claimed as the inspiration behind J.M Barrie’s “Neverland” this park houses ‘tree’ and ‘heritage’ trails for long lazy summer walks with the family.
Highfields Park
This park which is often confused with The University Park because it is so close to Nottingham University is the ideal place to bring the kids and a picnic to get out for a day of fun and relaxation. There is plenty of parking at this venue with disabled access and a seasonal boating lake. If you want something a little more strenuous, why not have a game of adventure golf?
Nottingham City Libraries
An afternoon could easily pass by as you and your children browse the books on offer in your local library. Right now, the Summer Reading Challenge is in full swing and will be running until mid-September. This is completely free and offers rewards, prizes and medals for all children who get involved and take part. Also look out for summer activities and storytelling for children.
Stonebridge City Farm
This lovely farm on Stonebridge Road in Nottingham is a registered charity run by volunteers so they don’t charge an entry fee but appreciate any donations given. Apart from the usual farm animals, you will find an aviary with a range of different birds and even meercats onsite! You can also visit the café, gardens, play area and the gift shop.
We hope our ideas have given you something to look forward to in the holidays with the kids. For more local news, property advice and the latest in Nottinghamshire, be sure to subscribe to our blog.
